Busy 2009 still fresh, 2010 looking good
2009 saw RP carry out over 100 mini conferences for a major international corporation.
Utilising ‘meeting room kits’, the whole job was designed to be transported and operated by one technician in a car or small van, keeping the cost down but with full support for the client. We already have in excess of 40 of these in the book for 2010 and look forward to many more.
As Technical Partner to the Charter Hall in Colchester we supplied staff, equipment and technical support for over 50 events in 2009, including such diverse events as the Olly Murs homecoming event, the Moscow Ballet, Co-Op Juniors Christmas Spectacular and Brian Conoly’s own touring live show. This year at Charter Hall also saw increased bookings for conference and meeting facilities, with Reece Productions involved with some large-scale plenary sessions for the likes of Colchester Borough Council, & the Diabetes UK Annual Conference. 2009 also saw further ‘TV appearances’ for Charter Hall with Question Time & Sky Sports Snooker, both with excellent feedback from the visiting companies on Charter Hall’s suitability to TV studio broadcast. With a full and increasing events diary at Charter Hall we are expecting more of the same this year.
xfactorX Factor at Charter Hall
In December, X factor 2009 finalist Olly Murs returned to his home town of Colchester to perform a one off show in Charter Hall. Reece Productions provided all live technical aspects of the show, including audio, lighting and stage management under the direction of the ITV show directors.
If you caught the footage during the X Factor final, notice that Olly Murs and Simon Cowell both used Reece Productions own stock of MiPro 707-HM handheld microphones. The stage was also lighted using our new stock of LED Battens.
Technicians here were James Reece-Ford, Chris Wisbey, Matt Burrell, Matthew Davies, Gary Taylor and Ben White.
'Meeting Room' Kits
Throughout 2009, Reece Productions has continued to invest in A/V equipment to hire for small 40-60 person meeting events.
For this type of production, the emphasis is on small portable equipment that a single technician can set up and transport easily. To this end, we have chosen the MiPro Ma-707 PA system – a single box solution including radio mic receivers and inputs for laptop sound. Added to the kit is the InFocus X17 range of 2000 lumen DLP projectors, offering outstanding picture quality in a compact unit. Client feedback has been excellent, and the small footprint means they can be used in small meeting rooms, or by connecting two MA707’s together to cover audiences of up to 100.
All this service, and the package packs down into the boot of a car!
OfficeThe Office
During the latter half of the summer, we began a complete overhaul of our office space. New furniture, new computers, a partition wall leading to a meeting room, spotlights, ceiling speakers and even some nice plants have made our work space a much brighter place to be!
This work included insulating the roof space in the office and warehouse, saving energy costs on heating and keeping us warmer. The whole building is also wired to a contact switch, enabling us to turn all equipment off overnight. Except the alarm of course...
New Team Member for Reece Productions
Ben White came on board in July having graduated from The University of Hertfordshire with a 2-1 degree in Sound Design Technology.
Ben has already become an important member of the team, slotting easily into the routine of office days, where his web design skills have been thoroughly utilised. He has already proved himself more than capable on the road, working either alone or as part of a team on various corporate conferences and events. We are looking forward to a long relationship with Ben, and are currently looking at various training programmes to increase his already broad range of skills.
On a lighter note, Ben is a talented musician and there is sometimes a spontaneous jam at work with Ben and James on guitar and Gary on bongos. There is rarely a dull moment at RP!
Digital Multicore
Adding to the success of the LS-9 range of digital audio consoles from Yamaha; the SB168-ES stage box coupled with the MY16 ES64 card allows up to 32 inputs and 16 outputs of audio over a single CAT5 cable – utilising the ‘ethersound’ digital audio protocol.
The benefits are obvious – not least the replacement of a substantial weight of analogue cables – saving both truck space and fuel. Good for budgets and the environment!

Happy New Year
2009 looks to be one of the most challenging years Reece Productions will see, with much talk of recession and economic down-turn in the UK. On the positive, Reece Productions feels that with its small size and boyant order book for 2009, it is well placed to weather the storm and come out even stronger. With several confirmed contracts with Local Government, including the continuation of the Essex-Jiangsu Festival with Essex County Council, Reece Productions is confindent of stability for the first half of the year. 'It is our opinion that, ironicaly, our services are required more in times of economic un-rest as Companies have a greater need to communicate with Employees, Suppliers and Customers both to improve the efficiency of current business activities and ensure future business. This is also an excellent time for Reece Productions to look internally as see what we can do better and more efficiently, we have brought in Credit/Debit card facilities to help with our Corporate Purchasing Business, plus continued our commitment to energy saving - which is good for the plantet, and our cash-flow!'
